Alexander McQueen Runway Plaid Wool Wrap Jacket

A rare and highly collectible runway piece from Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2005 collection, The Man Who Knew Too Much, this plaid wool wrap jacket appeared as Look 27 on the runway. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s heroines and the cinematic allure of figures like Tippi Hedren and Marilyn Monroe, the jacket blends dramatic silhouette with impeccable tailoring. Crafted in Italy from luxuriously soft virgin fleece wool, it has a blanket-like hand feel with hand-stitched edging and fringe detailing along the hem and seams.

The design features an exaggerated shawl collar that is exceptionally full—so voluminous it can be pulled up and worn almost like a hood—paired with extremely wide sleeves that enhance its sculptural presence. The wrap construction fastens with one interior button and two exterior buttons, while interior harness-style straps/armholes discreetly secure the jacket in place for ease of wear. An optional matching belt, hand-stitched in the same wool, allows the waist to be cinched for a more defined shape, though the piece is equally striking worn loose. Unlined and designed to close at and below the waist, this jacket balances runway drama with surprising versatility, making it as impactful over denim as it is styled formally.
